Contestant Guidelines for Round 2 - Judges' Choice

Modified on Thu, 6 Feb at 2:27 PM

Congratulations on making it to Round 2 of the OPEN SuperApp competition! This round is all about showcasing your songwriting skills and creativity by composing a unique song based on a theme selected by the judges. Let’s dive into what you need to do to prepare for Round 2!

Step 1: Theme Announcement

The judges will provide a theme that all contestants must incorporate into their original song. Once the theme is announced, take some time to think creatively and come up with a song that reflects this concept. Keep in mind that your song should not simply repeat the style or theme of your Round 1 entry—this is your chance to show versatility!

Step 2: Create Your Original Song

You have the freedom to compose your song however you like, but there are a few key things to keep in mind:

  • Originality: Your song must be original. If you already have a song that fits the theme, you can submit it, but it must be different from the song you submitted in Round 1.
  • Audio Quality: While professional recording is not required, it is essential that your audio is clear and easy to hear. You want to ensure the judges can focus on your songwriting and performance, so make sure the sound is crisp, even if you're recording at home.

Step 3: Submit Your Song

Once your song is ready:

  1. Go to the Spaces tab on the app.
  2. Click "+" and tap "Upload Video" and follow the prompts to submit your performance.
  3. If your song has lyrics, consider including a video of your performance or a visual presentation that enhances the impact of your song.

Step 4: Judging Criteria

Your submission will be judged on the following factors:

  • Creativity and Originality: Judges will assess how innovative and unique your song is. Try to think outside the box and bring your own style and voice to the theme.
  • How Well the Song Reflects the Theme: The judges will be looking for how closely your song aligns with the theme. Make sure the theme is clear in your lyrics and composition.
  • Overall Musical Composition and Performance: This includes the structure of your song, the melody, the arrangement, and how well you perform. Even if you’re recording from home, ensure your song flows smoothly and sounds polished.

Tips for Success:

  • Embrace the theme: Take time to understand the theme and think about how you can uniquely express it through music.
  • Quality over perfection: While professional equipment isn’t necessary, ensure your audio is clear and easy to listen to.
  • Be authentic: The judges want to hear your voice and your creativity. Don't be afraid to experiment or try something new.
  • Submit on time: Make sure to upload your song before the deadline. Late submissions won’t be considered.
